While there, she was asked to fill in on the Karlson and McKenzie Morning Show and was offered a permanent position with Kevin and Pete. She began her radio career as the Morning Show Producer for Bob Miller on Mix 97 in Poughkeepsie. (It's hard to compete with a guy who may or may not have directed an Eminem video). Fun fact: if you go to the town's Wikipedia page, you will NOT see her name under the Notable Residents section. A town so tiny, the dairy farmer's daughters were also her ballet teachers.
Heather was born and raised in the small town of Washingtonville NY. They have been hired/fired all over the United States, from Ohio to Virginia to Oklahoma to Massachusetts, just to name a few states that would have them over the years. Their careers have spanned decades now in several different markets. Pete began a long adventure with fellow radio star Kevin Karlson in 1985. He grew up in Cleveland OH and got his first radio experience at Cleveland State University calling games for CSU basketball and baseball. Pete was born in McKeesport, PA but was never a Steeler fan. It’s their longest run on any station they’ve ever worked at. The Karlson, McKenzie & Heather Show have been on WZLX for 14 years. He’s won no radio awards, although he was named ‘Employee of the Month’ in June of 1994. Kevin’s hobbies include complaining about stuff and trying to lose weight, a battle that he’s currently losing. They’ve been fired from a few stations and left some on their own. His guidance counselor said he should pursue an exciting career in retail, but he took a chance on radio instead. He’s been working morning radio all over the country with his partner Pete McKenzie for over 30 years now.
